Lucas S. Michels

Lucas’ practice focuses on assisting businesses and individuals with their domestic and international intellectual property (IP) and business legal needs. Having worked in foreign regulatory compliance and lobbying prior to becoming a lawyer, Lucas understands the day-to-day legal and regulatory obstacles businesses and individuals face in the global market and works to develop individualized legal strategies to help meet and overcome these challenges. 

He currently assists clients with domestic and international copyright and trademark prosecution, IP and business litigation and arbitration, IP enforcement, IP auditing and portfolio management, IP and business transactions, and general IP and business legal counseling.

Chad M. Smith

Chad Smith is a former Examining Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and he has more than 19 years of experience working with large and boutique law firms. He has extensive experience in managing large U.S. and international trademark portfolios, and matters involving the protection, registration and enforcement of copyrights. He has successfully represented clients in domain name disputes and other adverse proceedings involving trademarks and copyrights and has represented numerous clients in matters before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (oppositions, cancellations, ex parte appeals).

Chad assists clients with all stages of securing trademark protection with an emphasis on the selection and enforcement of trademarks domestically and internationally. In addition, he works closely with clients in formulating worldwide trademark protection and registration strategies. Chad has been instrumental in developing intellectual property strategies for numerous start-up and entrepreneurial clients, several of whom have grown to million-dollar, international competitors. Chad’s highly-personal, one-on-one approach to client relationships has led him to consistently meet and exceed his clients’ goals.

In addition to his work at Ironmark Law Group, Chad is an adjunct professor at Seattle University School of Law and University of Washington School of Law where he teaches courses on trademark prosecution and practice. He also volunteers and has served on the board for Washington Lawyers for the Arts.
